Sittin’ In introduces audiences to new cutting-edge artists. It defies genre, often drawing from everything from straight-ahead jazz to freestyle hip hop and all points in between. There’s an unpredictability to the night, which we enthusiastically embrace! Sometimes you’ll experience a finely tuned set and sometimes you can catch a totally improvised show by seven people who have never played together. The awesome creativity, excitement, and quality always shine through in The Kimmel Center’s informal club-like setting, featuring early warm-up sets by some of the hottest DJs around. And, it’s free!
This month, join us for an event showcasing Prominent Millennial Feminine Voices through traditional urban music. This event features genre-crossing artists Taylor Kelly, Jacqueline Constance, Queen Jo and more celebrating elements of Soul, Jazz, RnB, Hip-Hop and House music accompanied by a live band.
Queen Jo:
Ciarra Lambert is better known throughout the Philadelphia nightlife scene as the on the verge emcee, Queen Jo (QJ). She has cultivated a loyal following through her musical, as well as, numerous hosting appearances where she creates a fun experience for all in attendance. For all of those reasons QJ serves as #FNFparty’s number one ambassador and formal host. Philadelphia’s movers and shakers look to her as a compass for all things relevant, which is why she remains the glue that keeps many night life scenes connected. As an unapologetic feminist, most of QJ's music and curated events focus on creating safe spaces and equal representation in the music industry.
Queen Jo released her first solo project, Cleopatra’s Rapture, leading to New York's, Deli Magazine crowning Queen Jo as Philadelphia's best new artist of the year (2014.) That same year, Queen Jo landed her first performing gig at the Red Bull stage, at The Firefly Music Festival (2014). Throughout the years Queen Jo has shared the stage with many artists including Ursula Rucker, JunglePussy, and most recently, Lion Babe.
DJ A-List:
As a Detroit native and Philly resident, DJ A-List has become one of the most requested DJs along the East Coast and Midwest within a short period of time. Her “open format" DJ style allows her to cover a wide range of events with a diverse audience, covering genres such as Hip Hop, R&B, House, Afrobeat, & Pop. DJ A-List has been featured in AIM Magazine (Africans in Motion), Readers Digest, Minneapolis Fox 9, Minneapolis CBS WCCO, Philadelphia NBC 10 & Philadelphia WURD.
