Overview

“PHILADANCO has the verve and brightness of new paint. The performers move with the clarity and the pulled-up look of ballet dancers, the stretch and the direct emotional commitment of modern dancers and the sharp attack of jazz dancers.” – The New York Times

PHILADANCO returns for their second program of the Kimmel Center’s 2016–17 season with Black Steam, a selection of works by favorite choreographers of PHILADANCO founder Joan Myers Brown including Talley Beatty, Dawn Marie Bazemore, Gene Hill Sagan, and Christopher L. Huggins.

Program:

Talley Beatty – Revival of A Rag, a Bone, and a Hank of Hair, set to music by Prince and Earth, Wind and Fire

Gene Hill Sagan – Revival of Sweet Agony, set to the soulful sounds of Teddy Pendergrass

Dawn Marie Bazemore – NEW WORK!

Christopher L. Huggins – NEW WORK!

PHILADANCO! The Philadelphia Dance Company presents the highest quality of professional dance performance and improves the skills of emerging and professional dancers and choreographers. Across the nation and around the world, PHILADANCO is celebrated for its innovation, creativity and preservation of predominantly African-American traditions in dance.
