Join the Philadelphia Young Artists Orchestra (PYAO) as they present their 22nd Annual Festival Concert in the Kimmel Center’s Perelman Theater. Although best known for his operas and songwriting, American composer Lee Hoiby also wrote for full orchestra. The performance begins with his composition, Overture to a Farce.  The orchestra will then play two movements,Nuages" (clouds) and "Fêtes" (festivals), from Debussy’s Nocturnes. Originally conceived as a work for female choir and symphony, the composition is commonly performed solely by an orchestra. The concert concludes with the popular tone poem by Gershwin, An American in Paris. This work vividly depicts the hustle and bustle of the beautiful French city by highlighting the battery percussion. The performance will also feature the winner of the PYAO Young Artists Solo Competition.
