Road to Reopening Relief Fund

As a non-profit performing arts organization, the Kimmel Cultural Campus has been severely impacted by Covid-19. Since March 13, 2020, our cultural campus has remained closed in compliance with public health and safety guidelines, and we have postponed and canceled hundreds of performances, concerts, classes and other events. The performing arts industry, whose work fuels a vibrant downtown Philadelphia, has collectively gone “dark.”

Contributions to the Road to Reopening Relief Fund will allow us to survive and help us remain a voice in and for our communities as we continue to work towards our vision to transform lives daily through the arts.

KIMMEL CULTURAL CAMPUS IMPACT ANNUAL CITY AND STATE IMPACT  |  THE IMPACT OF YOUR GIFT

Kimmel Cultural Campus Impact

With 93% of our revenue driven by ticket sales, venue rentals, artistic partnerships and catering and concessions, the financial impact of COVID-19 is dire.

To date, over 1,100 performances and events have been canceled or rescheduled, affecting more than 1.5 million guests and representing a ticket revenue loss of close to $11 million dollars.

Despite making swift and aggressive cuts, including our most difficult decision to partially or fully furlough 100% of our staff, we face a true operating gap of $5.3 million through the end June.

Additionally, we anticipate up to $4 million dollars in new expenses due to increased COVID-19 countermeasure costs for performances and events upon reopening.

Annual City and State Impact

As the most impactful performing arts center in the region, and the second largest in the nation, our activity contributes greatly to the economic health of the City and State.

In a typical year:

  • The combined activities of the Kimmel Center, its Resident Companies, and its audiences generate a total economic impact within our 11-County region estimated to be more than $585 million, supporting nearly 5,000 jobs

  • The Kimmel Cultural Campus’ activity alone generates more than $7.1 million in city tax revenue and $6.8 million in state tax revenue

  • The 2,000 events that happen across our campus each year appeal to the unique spirit of this region- attracting diverse audiences and contributing to what makes Philadelphia so special
